Hope Squad's Day of Hope
On February 16, 2024, Hope Squads from various schools across the country will unite to participate in an inspiring event that aims to change the course of history. This particular day will be celebrated as the 'Day of Hope', which is specially dedicated to providing hope to those who are struggling with mental health issues. The movement is designed to empower individuals by recognizing the importance of hope when facing such challenges.
The Day of Hope is not just limited to students, as families, businesses, community centers, and others are encouraged to join in and show their support. The event will include various activities and initiatives that aim to spread awareness and offer hope to those in need. The main aim of the Day of Hope is to provide a platform where individuals can come together and support each other in their journey towards better mental health. The hope is that this movement will continue beyond just one day and inspire people to be more empathetic, compassionate, and supportive towards those who may be struggling with mental health issues.
Suicide prevention and mental health have already been in the national spotlight. Suicide has consistently been the second leading cause of death among American youth ages 10 to 24 years old.
Each day in our nation, about 123 people die by suicide (CDC). This means that there is one death by suicide every 12 minutes in America! Youth suicide is one of the leading contributors to a grim national trend of lower life expectancy (Laura Santhanam, PBS News), and only half of Americans are receiving treatment for major depressive episodes (NAMI). It is of the utmost importance that this matter is brought to the forefront of our communities.
